Maria Stanfors

Maria Stanfors (PhD) is Professor in Economic History and affiliated to the Centre for Economic Demography at Lund University. My research interest includes the economic histories of education, female labor force participation, housework, and family formation, as well as the interrelationships between them. I am involved in parallel projects on past and present gender differentials in labor market outcomes (focusing on wages and careers); fertility differentials among the educational elite; and the roles of assortative mating for income inequality in Contemporary Europe. Recent publications (2012-2014) include contributions to Economic History Review, European Sociological Review, Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health, Journal of Family Issues, and Demographic Research. I am currently program director of the Master Program in Economic Demography and teach graduate courses relating to Human Capital in a Historical Perspective and Marriage and Fertility and an undergraduate course on Work and family: Scandinavia in International Perspective.
