Sal Oropesa holds a Ph.D. from the University of Washington. After a stint working in the Chicago division of a worldwide marketing communications empire, he joined the faculty at the Pennsylvania State University where he is currently a Professor of Sociology & Demography and an associate of the Population Research Institute. His research examines the consequences of international migration and assimilation (or the lack thereof) for various forms of ethno-racial inequality. Although this research focuses primarily on Latinos in the United States, his interests extend to Latin America as well.
