Sofie Vanassche

Sofie Vanassche holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences from the KU Leuven. She earned her Master’s degree in Sociology in 2005 at the University of Ghent. In 2008 she obtained an Advanced Master in Quantitative Analysis in the Social Sciences at the Catholic University of Brussels. From 2006 until 2013 she was a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the KU Leuven. During this period, she wrote her doctoral thesis on binuclear stepfamily configurations in Flanders and the family processes within these configurations. Currently, she is working as a postdoctoral researcher of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) at the Centre for Sociological Research, KU Leuven. Her current research focusses on the heterogeneity in stepfamily formation and stepfamily processes across Europe and on the interaction between social and biological parenthood and gender. She is also one of the coordinators of the Leuvens Adolescents and Families Study (LAGO) and the SBO project Families in Transition, Transition in Families.
