Statement of Purpose

Demographic Research is a free, online, open access, peer-reviewed journal of the population sciences published by the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany. The journal pioneers an expedited review system. Accepted contributions are generally published within one month of final submission.

All material published in Demographic Research will be maintained online from volume 1 forward. It will also be distributed annually on CD-ROM or other suitable media to subscribing individuals, libraries, and other institutions throughout the world on a cost basis. While contributions to the journal are copyrighted, the journal encourages appropriate redistribution of its contents. According to German regulations, up to seven print or digital copies may be redistributed by any person or organization as long as the content is unaltered. Permission needs to be granted by both the author(s) and the publisher for the right to make and/or distribute more than seven copies.

The Publisher of Demographic Research is Joshua R. Goldstein, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, Rostock, Germany, and head of its Laboratory of Economic and Social Demography.

The Editor is Nico Keilman. Supporting the Editor is a board of associate editors.
