As long you are in compliance with our Copyright Notice, you may download articles for personal use. Articles can be downloaded by clicking the PDF icon on the first page of the article. If a publication contains large appendices or dynamic graphs, there may be several PDF icons or links to other sections of the journal.
In order to open and print a PDF you will need a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 3.0 or higher). This program is available at no charge from the Adobe web site.
Articles in Demographic Research should be cited in the same way as articles from traditional journals are cited, except for the fact that Demographic Research has no issue numbers. Articles published in Demographic Research starting in the year 2001 have all the key "traditional" elements used in citations; that is – author(s), article title, volume number, and a page number range. Articles from volumes 1, 2, and 3 (1999 and 2000) also have the key traditional elements except there are no page numbers. However, in all volumes each article has an article ID number. For articles in the very earliest volumes, you will need to use the article IDs in place of page numbers. For all articles published 2001 and later, please use the page numbers.
Two standard abbreviations for Demographic Research are "Demographic Res." or "DemRes".
Here are two examples of citation styles.
The Science citation style does not use titles, and also only uses the beginning page number or the article ID number.
The Nature citation style uses the article titles and full pagination range when available. Otherwise, just include the article ID – as in the example for Parnell.
Journal content in volumes 1-3 is available in both standard PDF and in HTML, Should you choose to view articles in HTML, you will find that the article view is divided into 3 frames. The leftmost frames are for navigation within the Demographic Research website (top) and within the article itself (bottom). The largest frame contains the article's main text.
Navigation between article sections can also be achieved by following the "previous"
and "next"
buttons or by clicking on the sections in the bottom-left frame.
When a reference appears in the text, the reference (e.g., [Smith 1991]) is a hypertext link. Clicking on the reference will create a small window showing the reference list and automatically scrolling down to the corresponding reference. Note: The [Smith 1991], above, is not a live example. The complete reference list is also a section that can be accessed from the article's section frame.
Equations and figures will appear in a similar manner as references. Clicking on the equation number in the text (e.g., {3}) brings up the referenced equation in a separate popup window along with surrounding text. The same will happen when clicking on a figure number. A section containing all figures is included in the bottom left-hand frame.
