This readme.txt contains replication information for the paper "Local determinants of crime: Do military bases matter? by Alfredo R. Paloyo, Colin Vance, and Matthias Vorell published in Demographic Research. The ZIP file "basecrim.zip" contains three Stata datasets and three Stata do-files corresponding to the original (untransformed) data, the dataset with 12-km buffer zones, and the dataset with 20-km buffer zones. Line #48 in each do-file generates information appearing in Table 5. Line numbers 63 to 85 in each do-file generate the OLS regression results (Tables 6, A1, and A3). Line numbers 87 to 109 generate the fixed-effect regression results (Tables 7, A2, and A4). Wohnungseinbruchdiebstahl, Diebstal in/aus Kraftfahrzeugen, Körperverletzung, and Rauschgiftdelikte correspond to breaking and entering, auto-related crime, violent crime, and drug-related crime.
