Data from the North Atlantic Population Project cannot be shared on public websites. Nevertheless it should be straightforward for people to reproduce our results by creating an extract from the United States census of 1880 available at www.nappdata.org



1. The file 1_napp_0060.do contains a listing of all variables used in the initial program. The program ends by creating the data file us1880.dta. 


2. The program 2_create_neighbor_vars_expanded_window_allus.do is used to create the kin proximity variables. Before running this program you should create a directory statefiles to hold the temporary datasets created by the program. 


3. Programs for analysis are then documented in 3_Statistical Analysis_Hacker & Roberts.txt, which is documented internally.
