The journal is a source of deep pride and passion, which we hope is shared by our whole community of readers, authors, reviewers, and editors. As we prepare for the next 20 years of this fascinating journey with Demographic Research, we look at the elements which have made the journal what it is today, and we consider how to meet the challenges of the future. We only deeply regret that the late Professor Jan M. Hoem (editor in 1999–2006) could not join us in this editorial endeavour. ER -
