The concept of the Equivalent Length of Life has been developed by Silber in the year 1982 and applied to compare mortality distributions in the HMD countries by Muszyńska and Janssen (2016).

In response to the points raised by M. Muszyńska and J. Silber I would like to suggest that it should be clear from my paper that the proposed measures are not new in the literature.
