Carolina Santamaría-Ulloa

Carolina Santamaría-Ulloa is Director and Researcher of the Institute for Health Research, Associate Professor at the Human Nutrition Department and the Public Health and Human Nutrition Graduate Programs, all at the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR). She held an appointment at the Costa Rican Ministry of Health and held a postdoctoral position at World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer. She received her Ph.D. and Masters Degree in Sociology with a specialization in Demography, from University of Wisconsin-Madison, as well as a Masters Degree in Statistics and a Sc.B. in Biology from Universidad de Costa Rica. Her research agenda is focused on morbidity and mortality. For the last ten years she has been a principal investigator on morbi-mortality associated to obesity, diabetes, hypertension and cancer and their impact on developing countries healthcare systems. The aim of her research is to inform policy making to improve population's health.
