My research falls broadly under the emerging area of social science genetics, combining rich longitudinal social data with genome-wide genetic data to investigate the causes and consequences of health and education. Substantively I am interested in the effect of underlying social processes on genetic studies, how social inequalities in health and education are formed and transmitted across generations, and how genetic data may be used to predict individual and group level differences. Methodologically I am interested in how selection into study samples may bias social and genetic research (and what can be done to minimise this), and how statistical methods applied to repeat measure longitudinal data can be used to account for sources of unobserved confounding between individuals.
