Technical requirements

The replications files require Stata software (version 14.0) to run.
Instructions

    To run the replication, create a working directory and copy the folder "Code" in this directory.
    To replicate the analysis, you need to obtain the following dataset from the UK Data Archive and save it to your computer:
        British Household Panel Survey Waves 1-18 (UK Data Archive Study Number 5151)
        British Household Panel Survey, Waves 1-18, 1991-2009: Conditional Access, Local Authority Districts (UK Data Archive Study Number 6027)
    In the folder "Code" you find the complete code to replicate the analysis. In this folder in the file "MASTER.do", replace the working directory and the data directories at the top of the file. After you replaced the directory, you may execute the complete file "MASTER.do" in Stata. This file will call all necessary subroutines to replicate the full analysis. Temporary data files will be stored in the folder "Output", log files are stored in the folder "Log", tables are written to "Tables" and graphical output is written to "Graphs".
