This repository contains the code to replicate the analysis of the project *War and mobility: Using Yandex web searches to characterize mobility intentions from Russia after its invasion of Ukraine*. 

The analysis was conducted in R (version 4.2.3).

Yandex search results were collected by the authors. Here, we offer the raw data. For the english, clean version please refer to this [OSF repository](https://osf.io/xky2q/).

For Georgia the border crossings of Russian nationals were provided by the [Ministry of Internal Affairs](https://info.police.ge/page?id=625&parent_id=94). For Israel, data were provided by the [Ministry of Tourism](https://www.gov.il/en/departments/general/visitors-and-tourists). For Serbia, data were obtained from the [statistics office](https://www.stat.gov.rs/en-us/oblasti/ugostiteljstvo-i-turizam/turizam/). For Turkey, data were provided by the [Ministry of Culture and Tourism](https://www.ktb.gov.tr/EN-283399/2021.html).

International departures of Russians were provided by the [Federal Security Service of Russia](https://www.fedstat.ru/indicator/38480). 

***df_cities.csv***

[Socio-demographic indicators](https://rosstat.gov.ru/folder/210/document/13204), [educational indicators](https://www.data-in.ru/data-catalog/datasets/115/#dataset-custom_tab_21), and [age- and sex structure](https://rosstat.gov.ru/compendium/document/13284#) on the city- and regional level were obtained from the Russian statistics office. Numbers hold as of January 2021.

***df_countries.csv***

Data on destination countries’ GDP and population size were obtained from the [World Development indicators](https://databank.worldbank.org/source/world-development-indicators). Binary variables on country entry regulations were derived from [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_requirements_for_Russian_citizens). The size of the diaspora was derived from the international migrant stocks provided by the [UN](https://www.un.org/development/desa/pd/sites/www.un.org.development.desa.pd/files/undesa_pd_2020_ims_stock_by_sex_destination_and_origin.xlsx).
