The data can be downloaded free of charge after registration and approval from the website https://usa.ipums.org/usa/ This article also used data from the Cross-sectional Amish Population & Environment Database 2010s. However, CAPED data is governed under a restrictive privacy rule and an anonymized public-use file is not yet available. As such, this replication file only provides replication code for estimates derived from ACS data. To access the specific data, download an ACS extract from IPUMS restricted to individuals whose language at home (language) is German, Pennsylvania Dutch, Dutch, or Swiss. ******************************************************************************************************************************************** 2) Variables ******************************************************************************************************************************************** Our study uses the variables: age, fertyr, marst, perwt, marrinyr, marrno, year, sex, language, phone, farm Numerous additional variables are available. *Technical perwt – population weights year – survey year yrgrp – generated variable, 5-year bins *Basic demographics age – single year of age age5 – generated variable, 5-year age band sex – sex or gender per U.S. Census definition *Marital variables marst – marital status at time of survey marrinyr – if married in last year marrno – number of times married ev_mar – generated variable, if ever married firmar – generated variable, first marriage in last year, i.e. marrno==1 & marrinyr==2 *Fertility variables fertyr – had birth in last year had_baby – generated, 0/1 if birth in last year nonmar_bir – generated, 0 for births, 1 for nonmarital births *Additional variables languaged – language spoken at home phone – has access to phone at home farm – household is a farm household ******************************************************************************************************************************************** 3) Description of the ZIP file ******************************************************************************************************************************************** The ZIP file includes 1 do-file (replication code.do), containing all code.
