This supplemental archive contains materials to replicate the analysis presented in the article ‘Diversity in causes of death: A new framework to account for multiple causes of death’ by Marie-Pier Bergeron Boucher et al. The archive includes:

(1) One R script containing all functions and codes used for the analyses
(2) Toy datasets that reproduce the structure and format of the original data

Because the original data are subject to data protection regulations, they cannot be publicly shared. 
To facilitate transparency and reproducibility, we provide simulated datasets, based on the US data.

There are three data files. 
(1) MCDdata.txt contains hypothetical multiple causes of death counts by age, year and underlying cause
(2) UCdata.txt contains hypothetical underlying causes of death counts by age and year
(3) LifeTable.txt contains the life table at the two hypothetical years

To reproduce the analyses:
(1) Open MCDdiversity_Rcode_replicable.R in R or RStudio
(2) Install and load all required packages listed at the beginning of the script
(3) Set the working directory to the folder containing the data files
(4) Import the three data files: MCDdata.txt, UCdata.txt, LifeTable.txt
(5) Run the remainder of the script sequentially

The script will reproduce the analytical workflow using the toy datasets.
