John Sandberg

John Sandberg is a Professor in the Department of Global Health at George Washington University's Milken Institute School of Public Health. He works across social network analysis, demographic methods, latent variable modeling, and survey methodology, with a long-standing focus on rural Senegal. He directed the NIH-funded Niakhar Social Networks and Health Project, which integrated a population-wide social network census with the Niakhar Health and Demographic Surveillance System. The resulting dataset has supported research on ethnomedical beliefs, intimate partner violence, migration, fertility, and social isolation. His current work includes research on violence against women, a study of hypertension awareness among the Sereer, and broader research on noncommunicable disease in West Africa. His methodological and theoretical work addresses network diffusion of health behaviors, schema theory, and of survey measurement.
