Elena Pirani

Elena Pirani is Associate Professor of Demography at the University of Florence, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in demography and serves on the PhD boards in Life Course Research and in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics. Her research focuses on family demography, social support networks, and population health. She examines how family structures and social relationships shape support networks, social integration, and well-being, particularly among older populations. Her work also addresses family behaviours from a life-course perspective, including union formation and intergenerational ties. A further strand of her research investigates well-being, social frailty, and health inequalities, with attention to the effects of employment and retirement trajectories on health.
