Andrew Hinde is Head of the Division of Social Statistics and Demography at the University of Southampton, where he has taught demography and statistics since 1989. Before that, he had spells at Oxford University and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. His research interests are in historical demography and the demography of developing countries. He is the author of two books: Demographic Methods (1998) and England's Population: A History Since the Domesday Survey (2003). He is joint editor of Volume 1 (Population) of the forthcoming new edition of British Historical Statistics.
