Víctor Manuel García Guerrero is Professor at the Center for Demographic, Urban and Environmental Studies at El Colegio de México (CEDUA-Colmex). Currently, he is the Editor-in-chief of the journal Estudios Demográficos y Urbanos and publications coordinator at the same center. He National Researcher level 3 for the National System of Researchers of the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation (Secihti). He is also Associate Editor of the journal Demographic Research and a member of the Editorial Board of the Revista Brasileira de Estudos de População. He holds a PhD in Population Studies from CEDUA-Colmex. He was visiting PhD student at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Austria and at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Germany. He has been a consultant in demographic methods for the United Nations Population Fund, the National Population Council (where he has participated in the last four official population projection exercises), the Ministry of Social Development, the Inter-American Development Bank, the National Electoral Institute and various consulting firms, banks, and insurance companies. His research topics are: population estimates and projections and their use in public policy and decision-making, demographic analysis of fertility, mortality and migrations, applied demography and formal demography.
He is the author of the book “Proyecciones y Políticas de Población en México” (Population Projections and Policies in Mexico), published by the Center for Demographic, Urban and Environmental Studies, El Colegio de México, A.C.
He is the author of the latest official population projections for Mexico produced for the National Population Council, published in: CONAPO (2024). Proyecciones de la Población de México y sus Entidades Federativas 2020-2070, National Population Council, United Nations Population Fund.
